If you’re looking for a cute project to decorate or gift this Easter season, just pull a bottle out of your recycling bin! I’ve seen the cat version on Pinterest a bunch and have really wanted to make one. While brainstorming Easter projects, I thought about that cat planter and realized with a few tweaks it would make a pretty adorable bunny planter!

What you need:
empty plastic bottle (any size will work, I used a 20 ounce bottle)
X-acto knife
scissors
acrylic paint
permanent marker
gloss sealer (optional)
iron (optional)

First, clean the bottle and remove the label.

With a permanent marker, draw a straight line around the bottle. For the 20 ounce bottle my line was about 3.5″ from the bottom of the bottle, but you can choose the height based on the size if the bottle and the size of your plant. Also draw a pair of long bunny ears.

Using an X-acto, cut along the bunny outline you drew. You can use scissors to smooth out any areas if needed.

The cut edges will probably feel a little sharp. The secret to get these softer if an iron! Set your iron to a medium setting. All irons are different, better to start low and turn it up if nothing is happening, if you start too high you risk melting the bottle too much. Hold your cut edge against the iron to reduce sharpness. This step is option but does make a difference!

Paint the outside of the bottle whatever color you want your bunny to be! I used a acrylic paint, you could also use spray paint.

Add an adorable face, and color the inside of this little guy’s ears. You can use permanent markers or paint. I tried out both and in the end liked markers better.

Optional – add a coat of gloss sealer. This helps keep the outside of your planter clean, with a glossy finish you can wipe off any dirt. I used FolkArt Outdoor Gloss Sealer. Let the gloss sealer dry completely.

All you have to do now is find a plant to fill your new planter!
