Are you guys aware of how beautiful some birds’ eggs are? There are so many colors, different types of speckles and splotches, its really fascinating. The beautiful image below is from audobon.org, click this link for their crazy interesting article about the color pigments of birds’ eggs.

While trying to think of a fun way to decorate Easter eggs this year, I used that photo for inspiration. Somehow I got onto this train of thought about what if these eggs were from some mystical bird… maybe a magic hen that belongs to a fairy living in a mossy grove in the woods… yes, I made the leap from Audubon to fairies.

So if you want some magical inspired eggs this Easter, here’s what you need:
metallic paint, 3-4 colors, gold/copper/bronze work great
navy blue paint
gold glitter nail polish
rainbow glitter nail polish
foam paintbrush (a sponge or piece of felt would also work)
stiff bristle paintbrush or old toothbrush
hard boiled natural brown eggs

Start by dabbing metallic paint in small splotches on an egg.

Keep dabbing different colors of metallic paint around the egg. Remember you don’t want to cover the entire egg, leave some of the natural brown showing. This gives a nice mix of metallic and natural textures.

Dab on some gold glitter nail polish. Again, don’t cover the entire egg, just small areas. I happened to not have gold glitter polish, so I mixed some gold craft glitter with gloss sealer.

Splatter paint time! Dip a stiff bristle brush or old toothbrush in some navy blue paint. By pulling back the brush bristles with your thumb, flick the navy paint onto your eggs. Make sure to cover all around your work area with newspaper, cause paint is gonna fly!

Dab on rainbow glitter nail polish in small splotches. You could leave off this step and keep the eggs more neutral, but for me the rainbow glitter is what makes these eggs magical!

My favorite thing about these eggs is that they really compliment any style. Set them on an all white table and they really pop, on a super colorful table they fit right in. Because we started with natural brown eggs, they really work with a rustic decor. Then we added glitter, so they feel right at home next to your rhinestone candle holders. Seriously, these magical Easter eggs go with everything! So have fun with the splatter paint and glitter, and get decorating!
